Some diners note that the seating arrangement can feel a bit cramped, particularly during busy times, impacting the overall atmosphere. This is common in popular cafes, especially where space is limited. There are occasional comments regarding the limited vegan options on the menu, leading some to feel a bit constrained when dining with vegetarian friends. However, the ever-changing menu gives hope for improvements in this area. It's crucial to arrive early, as tables fill quickly on weekends, and waiting for a coveted spot can be frustrating. Nonetheless, for many, these minor inconveniences are worth it for the quality of food and service offered.
What a fantastic experience! I had the Surf & Turf – a perfect combination of tender rump steak and juicy king prawns. It was served on a thick slice of toasted white bread, bursting with flavour. I honestly don’t know how the chef pulls this off, but it truly deserves five stars. The restaurant itself is cosy and welcoming, and you can also enjoy a lovely meal outside at the front. Highly recommended!
Had one of the best lunches here!!! Food was amazing, such a lovely find! We will definitely be back and I highly recommend. Had a mackerel salad- best thing ever! Always nice to discover places what serve amazing food!
Unbelievable food. You can really tell that the staff care about the quality of the food they serve. If you live in the area or are visiting, this is a must-try. Good energy in the kitchen and you can tell by the flavours! I’ve worked in food & wine industry for a good while and I was blown away by the food presentation, quality of ingredients, and the service. It was hard to choose what to order; luckily my table was keen to share lots of small plates. I would highly recommend sharing a few things. I will absolutely return to try more of the breakfast & daytime menu. Great wine options also. I was told that they update the menu regularly with seasonal ingredients so I’m very excited to keep visiting!
We popped in for a quick breakfast on a Saturday morning. We ordered the Barbican Bun and Eggs Benedict and it was absolutely delicious. ❤️ Simple flavours yet they complimented each other so well. The staff were very friendly. Docking a star for the atmosphere as downstairs seating can get a bit busy with seats a little too close to each other. No other faults. Overall, highly recommend and we will definitely be back to try out more :)
Y Barbican is one of my favourite places to lunch. The food is absolutely delicious, I've tried 3 different lunch items now and each one has been incredible. The portions are large, the food is freshly cooked (you are seated close to the chefs so you can see how hard they are working). The staff greeting you are always friendly and attentive when taking orders. The dining area is small and seating is limited, but it is well worth waiting if it is full. I can't recommend Y Barbican enough! My only criticism (if it can be called a criticism) is there aren't many options for vegans on the menu, so there are certain friends I probably wouldn't bring here yet, however with the menu constantly changing I'm sure this will change over time.
Met a friend for lunch today at Y Barbican. It was very busy. We had a 15 minute wait for a table, so we sat outside while we had a drink. The only available table was downstairs, which is quite dark, so we requested to eat outside instead. Despite being very busy, the waitress was thoroughly understanding and amenable and thankfully, the rain held off! I had courgette and mozzarella fritters with a selection of salads, fermented cabbage, grated carrot, tabbouleh, beetroot hummus which was a feast for the eyes! The fritters were absolutely delicious and the rest of the plate fresh and full of flavour. I left enough room for almond tart with cream, which was perfect….lovely light pastry. My friend had smoked salmon with poached eggs from the brunch menu which was also delicious. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience at a reasonable price. The staff are friendly, informative and professional. Given the space available, the food produced here is magic! Well done, Y Barbican 👏
Great café, amazing fresh and inventive menu (changes daily), with seafood and great variety. went for lunch but evening menu looked amazing! Chef accommodated a dairy free dish for my wife. Only thing I would say is that not many kids options (come without the kids)
